What a challenge! As I began to paint, I realized how many reflections were taking place in the plate. Not only did I have to deal with the reflections, there was also the raised stars on the plate. I had to take each color and each shape one at a time.The canvas is 1 1/2" thick. I have painted the sides so it could be hung without a frame.

I love how the painting extends over the edge of the canvas, it's a really interesting element. Did you know you were going to do that when you chose the subject?
With the canvas sides so thick I knew something was going to have to be done, but I didn't realize what an interesting effect the striped cloth would have.
